Hawaiian holidays are a tourist's dream come true, one that involves scenic views, soft sand, crystal clear waters, and a medley of impressive sights to see as well as experience. Action-packed activities like swimming, exploring, snorkeling and kayaking will only add to the memories.
Cast your eyes to the tall palms gently swaying in the tropical breeze, view the giant sea turtles or admire the panoramic views from many of the island's lookouts. Witness the friendly islanders perform the hula as you partake in an island feast, or watch the playful dolphins frolic as you view the tiniest of them all, a newborn.
Perhaps you wish to parasail, swim, dive or sail. There are so many activities you can enjoy that your camera will surely be working overtime and your friends back home will envy you.
Whatever is on your to-do list, you will surely need accommodation. With this in mind, note that there are numerous luxury rentals on offer all over the Big Island for both the entire family as well as the single visitor. These hotspots in both Hilo and Kailua-Kona are well maintained, with excellent amenities, and definitely great value for the money spent.
Below is my list of favorite places to visit on the Big Island of Hawaii - I know you will love them as much as I did.
Lahanai
Once an old whaling port, Lahanai has many jazz clubs and a cute shopping village, not to mention it boasts three world famous PGA Mercedes Gold Championship courses a mere five miles away. Another five miles north you will also find the famous Sansei Restaurant, a food connoisseur's delight.
Waimea
Visit the lovely town of Waimea, which is located within Big Island's South Kohala area. This amazing spot is the largest town on the island's interior. Located just 22 miles from Honokaa you'll have the chance to glimpse the valley of Waipio. Follow the roads to the sweeping greens of the Kohala Coast, as your eager eyes feast on the panoramic views.
Hilo
This charming city is situated at the point where the Hilo Bay unites with the Wailuka River. It's the biggest city on the Big Island and with that comes a medley of activities to enjoy, as well as a plethora of sights to see.
Visit the Pacific Tsunami Museum, which is dedicated to the education of the catastrophes of nature. The tranquil setting, calm waters, and peaceful setting of Hilo Bay are also worth a gander. Hike through Hilo's dew-kissed rainforest as you gaze entranced at the beautiful cascading waterfalls.
Kailua-Kona
This biggest city on the western coast of the Big Island is famed for the esteemed Hawaii triathlon in the Big Island Ironman venture. This is truly a stunning township, where the best of snorkeling, fishing, sailing and scuba spots can be enjoyed.
While meandering through town, purchase the world renowned Kona coffee
right from its very source. There's a medley of interesting historical
sites to see, lookouts to explore, restaurants to enjoy and shops to
peruse.
Visit the nearby bay, a fisherman's haven. With a history of being the best spot for deep-sea fishing on the Big Island, you certainly won't need to look any further. The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is but an hour-and-a-half
drive away, and you'll find a host of adventures just waiting for you
there, as well.
