Most people only dream of taking a Hawaiian vacation. They never
take the time to find out that you can afford a vacation on the Big
Island if you do a little research to find the best time to travel,
places to stay, and where the free events and attractions can be found.
The
spring and fall are considered the off-season on the Big Island; this
is when you will find the best deals on accommodation, airfare and
car rentals, plus you will encounter fewer crowds. If you stay inland
instead of on the beach, you will likely find cheaper lodging. After
all, no matter where you stay on the island, you are only a few short
miles from the ocean, so why pay extra to have it right outside your window? If you rent a condo or a room with a kitchenette you can
prepare some of your own meals and save money by only dinning out for
dinner.
There are many attractions and events that are free
year round, like the Pana`ewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens, the
only natural tropical rainforest zoo in the United States. It is spread
out over 12 acres and home to more than 80 animal species.
The
Volcanoes National Park is where you can explore the molten
lava flow at Kilauea volcano. Volcanoes is only one of many national or historical parks that you can visit for free or for a very small fee. What better way to learn about and experience Hawaii than
through exploring its nature and history?
There are miles upon
miles of sandy beaches to play on and trails to hike that won't cost
you a dime. McGregor Point Lookout has a free whale information station
that is staffed by Pacific Whale Foundation naturalists who can give
you expert tips on locating whales and information on recent whale
activity.
There is a way to fit a Hawaiian vacation into
almost any budget: By traveling smart and planning ahead, you can visit
this island paradise sooner rather than later.
