The Kidz are Alright in Destin, Florida

Brightly blooming flowers and a slowly warming ocean make Destin the ideal place for a springtime vacation.  With the winter rains past, this sunny Florida hotspot starts heating up in preparation for the sizzling summer - temperatures range from eighty-two degrees (F) during the day and swoop down to the mid-fifties (F) at night.

During the spring months, Destin hosts a wide variety of seasonal activities that will keep every type of visitor busy (and happy).  Aside from the water-based activities that attract tourists in droves, there are dozens of things to do and see on land - and if you're lucky enough to make a trip to the Emerald Coast in springtime, you can't afford to miss checking out a little local color.

The entire month of March - and part of April - is dedicated to the HarborWalk Marina Destin Cobia Tournament; anglers, cast your lines!  Catching fish has never been so much fun, because there are big payouts on the contests and you can compete daily with locals and other visitors.  Destin is nicknamed "The World's Luckiest Fishing Village," so why not try your luck?

If you're not into the idea of baiting a hook and waiting for a nibble, don't worry.  Take the family to the Kidz on the Coast celebration in Destin Commons!  "On the Coast" magazine hosts this fun-filled extravaganza and offers refreshments, arts and crafts, and lots of kid-friendly vendors for a great family bonding day.

April brings a fantastic annual Native American festival called Musical Echoes - it's a three-day event at Fort Walton Beach Landing, and it's packed with Native American art, jewelry, and plenty of music and dancing.  Destin's April sun and mild temperatures make this outdoor activity a must-see!

The Saturday in the Park Festival in Perrine Park has been going strong for over three decades; with tons of family-friendly activities like horse-drawn carriage rides and antique car showcases, there's something for everyone to enjoy.  There's plenty of live entertainment, food, and all proceeds benefit the Heritage Museum - so you can have a blast at the festival and know that you're contributing to a worthy cause.

May really starts heating up in Destin.  Try your hand on the Billy Bowlegs Poker Run - it's a cruise to several local ports where participants pick up cards and compete for the best poker hand at the end of the day.  You'll see plenty of places, spend a day out on the water, and you might even win cash and prizes!

Local springtime events, coupled with typical Florida fun-in-the-sun make visiting Destin in the spring one of the best vacation choices you'll ever make.
