Destin Vacations--Getting Around and Back Again

Getting to and around the Destin-Ft. Walton Beach area is a snap. Of course, once you experience the alabaster sands and the clear emerald waters, you might not be able to tear yourself away from the beach. But I guess you'll have to eat sooner or later. Visitors have plenty of options for traveling to numerous restaurants, thrilling theme parks, shopping malls, historic locations, and the famed fishing grounds. Even if you just want to go on a sightseeing lark, you'll find a friendly, knowledgeable guide to take you.

Visitors to the Florida panhandle city of Destin will find Caribbean-like natural beauty, without having to travel to the Bahamas or Jamaica. Wings Air provides direct flights to Destin from Atlanta, and you won't have to deal with the crowds at Hartsfield. The flights leave from Atlanta's Gwinnett Airport, and you'll fly in comfort at affordable rates. Included in the flight are comfortable seats, complimentary snacks, movies, and state-of-the-art music on MP3 players with noise-reduction headphones. Or you might prefer driving. Destin is easy to find. It's only 57 miles from Interstate 10 and 35 miles off the Gulf Breezes Parkway-US. 98.

Once there, you'll have no trouble finding transportation around the area. Sunshine Shuttle offers 'round the clock shuttle service to and from the airport, taxi service, and group transportation. You'll experience true southern hospitality in their clean new vehicles, including free drinks. If you want to arrive in style, give 654 Limo a call, day or night, for a luxurious ride in one of their premier limousines.

With so many waterways in the Destin area, a great way to travel is the water taxi. For a nominal fee, you can ride all day, with stops at the top restaurants, shopping, and nightlife hot spots. With the water taxi, getting there is half the fun!

To get to the popular fishing grounds, charter one of the boats from the numerous marinas. Destin boasts the largest fleet of fishing vessels in the country, and a variety of superb fishing is available: inshore trolling, deep-sea fishing, and offshore trolling. You can choose from a number of private charters, or hop on a party boat for as low as $25 for some grouper, snapper, and amber jack action. Some of these big comfortable boats even have on board restaurants and lounges.

Destin also has several boats for sightseeing adventures. Cruise the Choctowhatchee Bay as your guide points out and explains interesting and historical locations. Or board one of the glass-bottom boats for a great underwater sightseeing excursion. Another popular trip by water is the sunset cruise, where you'll enjoy the splendor of the western sky mirrored on the placid surface of the gulf.

In some parts of Destin, you won't need any additional transportation other than your own two feet. For example, the Pedestrian Village at Sandestin offers acres of shopping, restaurants, night clubs, and bars, all in beautiful lush surroundings. As you stroll along, you'll be entertained by talented street performers and traveling musicians. You'll find several locations in the area where all your needs are met in one area, so park your car and walk!

Destin is a wonderful destination for any traveler. It's easily accessible from practically anywhere in the country, and once you've arrived, you'll be able to navigate your way around in no time. If you do get lost, some friendly native will point you in the right direction. Heck, as a genteel southern gesture, he might even offer to take you there himself!
