GALVESTON MUNICIPAL GOLF COURSE:
With a 14 million dollar upgrade, The Galveston Municipal Golf Course is now looking absolutely superb. With 'Jacobson Hardy Golf Designs' proudly noted as the designated re-designers, there is no wonder everyone is excited. one will be in total awe when they see exactly what has been done to this grand old gem.
Just driving up to the course is a great experience. Such a lovely scenic drive it is, which takes you right up to such a stately golf course indeed.The greens are so well pampered so have your fill of beautiful scenery while you prepare to tee off on one of the greatest golf courses in all of Texas.
Galveston Municipal Golf Course is ranked up with the top five municipal courses in the whole of Texas. There are a medley of challenging bumps and rolls which were added in 1991 by Carlton Gipson. This is an elite par 72, 6,900 yard golf course. The golf aficionado will be testing his/her skills in many areas. The course is nothing short of stunning, and so well designed. Practice your swing at the excellent driving range, or wander over to clubhouse and introduce yourself to the locals.
The course is totally cocooned by the lovely Sydnor Bayou, where you can enjoy a day of total serenity. The 18th hole has water play from three different directions so you will be busy here. It's an extremely tricky par 4, of 430 yards. You will need to hook well here. Rental clubs, lessons, snack bar and pro shops are all available.
BAYOU GOLF CLUB, BAYOU COURSE
14 miles from the central part of Galveston, you will find Bayou Golf Club. This awesome golf club, which was opened in 1974, is a little gem. Come play a round of golf beneath the blue skies while standing amongst the gently swaying tropical palms. Beautiful Bayou Golf Course is a part of the multi million dollar Texas parks expansion program.
The championship layout was designed by Houston-based architect Joe Finger. This magnificent course sits upon 200 glorious, well-maintained acres, along the banks of the eye catching Moses Bayou. The elevated rolling greens are so inviting. Come and enjoy your golfing where the climate is pleasant and provides a tropical essence.
Take note that the omnipresent winds which sweep across from Galveston Bay, will have you working harder than usual. Add to that all 22 challenging sand areas, and 12 holes with water play and you have a golf course which will certainly test your expertise. Bayou Golf Course has hosted a great number of golf tournaments, and has 18 holes spread over 6,665 yards which is a par 72.
GALVESTON COUNTRY CLUB
Galveston Country Club is considered one of the most superb golf courses in Texas. This beautiful and extremely stunning golf course certainly has some historic elements. Dating right back to 1898, the club is the oldest of any private golf courses in all of Texas. This lovely golf course is definitely one of the best kept secrets in Galveston.
Although the golf club has quite a few aged notches under its belt, it certainly isn't old where it counts. This stunning golf course plays host to many annual tournaments, such as, The National Super seniors, Rudy T. Golf Classic, Gulf Coast Intercollegiate Tournament, and the Beachcombers Tournament.
All features of the golf course are excellently maintained, the greens could not be greener and the driving range is so well designed. Delight at the picturesque view of the oleanders. This is one of the most prestigious golf courses you can find. The golf course is situated on the tranquil Lake Como, which is on the island's West End.
Note also that Galveston Country Club is also known to represent more than just golfing. The locals deem this as one of the many monuments within Galveston, and feel it represents gracious traditions historical treasures. It also represents class and a life of elegant living.
With a medley of water pools, and well over fifty sand bunkers this course will test your endurance. There are a great many water fowl and a great number of assorted birds to see. Try for a birdie or watch the birdies. The choice is yours!
The whole area is picture perfect. Be warned the amateur golfer needs to ensure they do not over shoot their ball, as this is quite a short course. With water play as a big part of the main focus, you will need to place your ball well. This is one of my favorite golf courses. Take note that it gets pretty windy, so with the water play and the wind against you, your game can be extremely challenging.
