If cycling is your thing and you are hoping to incorporate this into your vacation to Hilton Head Island, you will certainly have a plethora of excellent cycling paths from which to choose. With well over 23 miles of protected cycle-ways to enjoy, you will be assured of a safe venture with the added benefit of panoramic views.
The picturesque beaches stretch for miles, as do the forest; this will surely make for glorious eye candy as you set your spirit free. With the calming sea- laced wind in your hair and the cycle beneath you, you'll feel like one with nature.
Visit Sea Pines Plantation and pay a small gate fee, then you will be able to access the 5,200 acres of nature's delight, which is located within the southern end of Hilton Head Island. This area is simply stunning with 605 acres of forest preservation; you must bring your bike in by car.
There are well over 15 miles of leisure trails for your cycling adventure. Stop at Harbour Town to take photos of the many stores, art galleries, and the famed candy striped lighthouse, or perhaps you may wish to picnic here. The views are breathtaking indeed. Cycles can be rented at the Sea Pines Center which is located near Harbourtown.
Cycle across the ,bridge which leads you to the main trail on Pinckney Island. See the marshlands or follow the 3.5-mile trail along the waters edge and view dolphins frolicking in the calm seas or alligators sunbathing.
December 7 on Hilton Head brings forth the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the brand new Pope Avenue pathways. The new constructions that have just been completed will now replace many street bike lanes with off street leisure trails.
South Beach and Windmill Harbour are a cyclist's delight: Gaze over the sea and perhaps catch a glimpse of whales migrating. The serene waters are soothing - just how you prefer to spend the lazy days of vacation.
They say that on Hilton Head Island, there is no place a cyclist can't venture. Try either Jarvis Creek Park Trail, or Hunting Island Trail - without a doubt the best cycle trails I have ever experienced.
