If you are looking for a relaxing vacation, tucked away from the bright lights and big city, Hilton Head Island is sure to have everything to meet your needs. If you look out back by the big hovering oak trees, you might just find a hammock with your name on it.
First, head over to the Harbour Town Lighthouse. You can't miss this red and white lighthouse: standing 90 feet it's the centerpiece of the Sea Pines Resort. Make sure to climb to the top, you can find a magnificent panoramic of Hilton Head Island.
By this time, you are probably going to be famished. Why not head over to Skull Creek (I'm sold on the name itself) and feast on some "Old Southern" cookin at the Old Fort Pub located in the Hilton Head Plantation.
Now that your belly is full of crab cakes and goat cheese ravioli, time to do some exploring. The Shelter Cover Marina is nearby, you can take a Daufuskie Island and dolphin cruise by boat. Explore the vivid scenery, see the tiny one-room Island Elementary School. Not a history buff? That's okay, while others are checking out the past, you can be searching for dolphins.
Looking for something a little more daring? Sign up for parasailing and let the wind jolt you 400 feet into the air and fly you above the island. Stop by the Sea Pines Resort for the ride of your life.
As the sun sets, it's time to settle down and grab some dinner and a few drinks. The Salty Dog Cafe has just the thing you need. Grab a seat inside Captain John's Gallery and read up on the history of Jake, the legend behind the "Salty Dog". After you are finished with your Captain's Platter, find a seat and enjoy a drink on the waterfront deck.
On day two, you might want to do some more exploring, if so, head over to the Coastal Discovery Museum. There you will find exhibits and activities to fill up your day. Take a tour, there are many to choose from such as; Nature Tours, History Tours, Guided Walks, Cruises and Kayak Trips. I personally remember the Nature Tour being the best one. The tour includes a walk down the beach to the Folley, a tidal inlet creek. You will learn about how the beach was formed, the significance of the dunes, what sea creatures exist and you will even get some hands-on shell talk.
For dinner, you might want to check out what's often rated as Hilton Head Island's #1 restaurant; Alexander's. Located in Palmetto Dunes, this unique favorite has been visited by tourists and locals alike. Enjoy some seafood overlooking the lagoon and take a peek at the vintage Harley's in the main dining room. You will not be disappointed.
On day three, this is a definite beach day. Grab a beach towel, some sunscreen and a boogie board and head to the shore.
It doesn't matter what you are looking for, Hilton Head Island has it all. Take the family on a summer vacation, plan an intimate getaway at one of Hilton Head Island's fabulous beach resorts or just come to hang out and relax. Hilton Head has it all.
