192 Ways to Get Around Kissimmee Florida

Ok, there's not really 192 ways, but US Route 192 is a major thoroughfare in Kissimmee, FL - here are some practical tips for traveling around the area and avoiding theme park traffic.

When you are in the Kissimmee area, getting around can be a bit trying at times. After all, with the theme parks, shopping malls, attractions and other recreational areas, some roads can get quite congested. So, it is little wonder that people will turn to other means to get around Kissimmee, Florida.

In terms of public transportation, there is the Lynx Bus System. They have a full range if routes and very regular and frequent schedules. Consult their website when laying out your plans for the day.

On the other hand, if you really insist on driving, there are some tricks to avoid getting stuck in a traffic jam around Kissimmee, Florida. First off, try to avoid I-4 and U.S. 192 during rush hour; they are virtual parking lots! This is especially true early in the morning when everyone is heading for the theme parks. Some of the best roads, unfortunately, are the toll roads. We are talking smooth, wide roadways with no traffic lights. The wisest course of action: get yourself an ePass; that way you cruise through the toll plazas in no time at all. But do watch your speed. The Florida Highway Patrol has been known to check the times that people pass through the tolls and calculate their speed! The result: you get slapped with a speeding ticket in the mail.

Still, taking the Florida Turnpike to get north or south of Kissimmee is not that expensive. The tolls generally run fifty-cents to a dollar. Or, if you prefer a non-toll road, U.S. 17-92 can be good, but watch it around rush hour. For going east-west, the West Osceola Parkway and the Central Florida Greenway are excellent roads. Again, the tolls are quite reasonable and the Greenway dumps you out on I-4, practically at Disney's doorstep.

A good way to avoid the heavy congestion of downtown Kissimmee is to take U.S. 192 to either Bermuda Avenue or Michigan (depending on whether you're going east or west, respectively), then go north to Donegan, and then south back down to U.S. 192. Yes, it's a bit roundabout, but if you have to get through the area during the height of rush hour, it's a viable alternative.

Getting around Kissimmee is not impossible, but it can be difficult if you hit the area at just the wrong time. My advice: avoid the busy times of day if you can.
