Grab the Baby Oil and Tin-Foil Sun Reflector and Head for Marco Island Beaches!

Are you planning a sunny, sandy, trip surfside?  Consider heading to Marco Island, Florida, one of the southern state's most beautiful and easily accessible island towns. Marco Island is criss-crossed with waterways and lagoons, which means that visitors are never more than a few steps away from boating, swimming, and marine life.  But where's the best place to go when you're ready for a day of sand castles and seashells?  Here are a few insider tips on the beautiful beaches of Marco Island:

Tigertail Beach
The most easily accessible of the bunch, Tigertail Beach is a public beach with personal style.  What's unique about Tigertail?  Well, the main part of the beach actually borders on a small lagoon.  This tidal lagoon is perfect for little kids, as it's shallow and easy to navigate.  But take a short walk through the water, and you'll get to Sand Dollar Island, a barrier island in progress which borders on the Gulf waters.
Tigertail beach is a great place to get a good look at nature - there are hundreds of different types of shells, mostly found in the water and on the barrier island.  The lagoon part of the water is a great place for discovering rays and other marine life.  And many unique species of migratory birds make Sand Dollar Island their nesting ground.

As for amenities, Tigertail Beach has it all.  It's located right off of Tigertail Park, which houses a playground for the kids and a snack bar with tables.  There's also a picnic area, volleyball nets, cabanas, chair and umbrella rentals, and a bathhouse.  If you'd like to go kayaking or paddleboating, you can do that too.
This beach is open from 8 A.M. to sunset, and is the top pick for travelers with kids.

South Resident's Beach
Also called South Marco, South Resident's beach is layered with soft white sands and borders the quiet surf of the Gulf of Mexico.  Unlike Tigertail, this beach is only accessible via walkway, so it tends to be a bit more secluded.  There is an adjacent lot with public parking and restrooms, but once you cross the walkway there are no amenities whatsoever.

South Marco Beach is the best place to head for a relaxing low maintenance day of surf and sand.  You can bring kids along if they can handle the trek, but make sure to pack a picnic basket, water toys, and anything else they might need.  Then lay down with a book and enjoy the peace and quiet. (Of the beach.  We can't guarantee the volume levels of your offspring.)

Main Resident's Beach
The Main Resident's beach is easier to get to than the south side, but you need a resident's permit to get in.  Depending on where you stay, that might not be too difficult to obtain, so check the details of your vacation condo or holiday home before you go.  Once you're there, you'll enjoy a classic beach environment with lots of great amenities.  There are vending machines for a quick snack, chickee huts and benches, and a children's play area.  Restrooms and showers are located right on beach, and parking is a few short steps away.

Once you've made the Marco Island Beach circuit, you can head off to experience some of the many other activities that the island has to offer.  From fishing and sailing to cruising with dolphins and manatees, Marco Island is the perfect place to enjoy an exotic and fun-filled oceanside adventure!
