Skip the Snow and Have a Hawaiian Holiday this Winter

Do the winters seem too long ? Missing seeing green?Do you long for the sun and breeze to give you a warm kiss? Are you prone to the "Christmas blues" particularly when the holidays are near? Weeks before thanksgiving,do you already worry about overcrowded airports, traffic jams and teeming malls? Has the song "White Christmas" lost its appeal to you as you stare at your heater and figure out your electric bill?

You could be having a Green Christmas in Maui, where you're sure to enjoy the whole season without the petty annoyances. Maui is the place where everything seems to go right during the holidays. As the "ber-months" begin so does the fun and mirth. For instance:

  • September:  Attend the biggest culinary and music fest. The "Taste of Lahaina and Best Island Music festival". This is where all popular restaurants in the island showcase their premiere dishes including wine, beer and specialty drinks. Also features live concerts and kiddie rides and games.
  • October's "Halloween in Lahaina:" The Legend of Halloween, celebrated since 1990 isn't just one night but a whole day of fun! During the month some thousands of partying people stand at Front Street on Halloween night, which is closed to vehicle traffic from 3:30 to 11:30pm. Kids have their parade that starts at about 4:30 pm into the night as "scary crafts", food and beverages are sold at booths under the famous Banyan Tree.Personal tip : Don't forget to try those Maui Tacos sold at the food booths.
  • November - If you're a golfer the event of the year is the 2008 EA SPORTS MAUI INVITATIONAL, hosted by Chaminade University, held on Thanksgiving day.
  • Thankgiving Day (for non-golfers?) - Every Resort Hotel in the Island has its own Thanksgiving Buffet, the best however seems to be the Sheraton Maui where the food rates an A-1.
  • Have the "belated Thankgiving" a day after at the Royal Lahaina Lua Cruise luxury yacht at the Lahaina Harbor (located in downtown Lahaina) see the sunset and  dancing lights a from the islands of Molokai, Lanai & Maui. Dine at the Upper deck while beholding the skies. This is one affair you'll always remember!
  • Take the Oahu Day Trip from Maui to a patriotic experience from the site of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor to the signing of the armistice on the USS Missouri. (You will board the Navy launch for this trip into history across Pearl Harbor to the Arizona Memorial).
  • Have an early Christmas on Saturday and Sunday, December 6 and 7, 2008. Lahaina's historic Banyan Tree is lit up with thousands of Christmas lights for the entire holiday season. Even Santa Claus goes green and island-hops with his reindeers as the community choir sings Christmas carols.
  • Stroll through dozens of art galleries in LahainaTown each Friday from 7 to 10 pm for special gallery shows, featured artists-in-action, and refreshments, all free and open to the public. Lahaina has earned its nick-name of "The Art Capital of the Pacific" for a reason, you know!
  • Have a the ultimate relaxation massage at the Spa Grand at the Grand Wailea Resort in Maui. The Spa Grand offers all types of massages - try the "hot lava mud" - plus different aromatic healing and calming scents too. This is one of the best gifts you can give your body.
  • Ride the ferry and have and go on an island expedition! Take the ferry service between Maui and Lanai. ( From Manele Bay Harbor to the Manele Bay Hotel the fare round trip is $5.00)Explore the beach and have lunch at the Manele Bay Hotel (you can also take the trolley into Lanai City). See the "Old Hawaii" which was a quaint plantation town .A little further up the road is the Lodge at Keole and the natural beauty of upcountry Lanai. All worth discovering during your adventure to Lanai.

A Maui Holiday gives offers you a paradise you've never seen and experiences you've never felt (plus, in the warmth you will be able to feel your toes, too!). You can yet have the most memorable Holiday Season of your life.  Alert warning though: don't you dare forget your camera!
