Choosing a vacation spot perfect for the whole family is sometimes difficult, especially when teenagers are involved. Myrtle Beach, however, has a multitude of activities for all ages, including lots of entertainment that teens will love.
THE BEACH
First and foremost is the great beach - 60 miles of wide, sandy shore and gently lapping waves. Teens can enjoy swimming, kayaking, snorkeling, shelling, surf fishing, water skiing, jet skiing, banana boat rides, sunbathing, and parasailing. Any water sport you can imagine is available at the Grand Strand. Actually, one of the favorite pastimes for teens is "strolling the Strand," otherwise known as checking out all the other teens on the beach.
AMUSEMENT PARKS
Myrtle Beach has several amusement parks that offer such diverse activities as bungee jumping, rock climbing walls, virtual reality games, thrilling rides, go-kart racing, and all sorts of water rides. An exciting addition for the 2008 season is Hard Rock Park, the first rock 'n' roll theme park in the world. With all kinds of amusement park thrills, as well as live music, this park will prove to be a mecca for teens.
INDOOR ACTIVITIES
If you've ever had a beach trip ruined because of rain, you know how bored teens can get when stuck inside a condo or a motel room. You won't have this problem at Myrtle Beach. Ripley's offers a huge aquarium, their famous museum of the unusual, a Moving Theater, and a Haunted Adventure, all sure to thrill and entertain. Also, your teens can enjoy indoor lazer tag, the IMAX Theater, or Magiquest - a live-action adventure game that puts players in a 3-dimensional interactive fantasy world. It's like being in a real video game! For more thought-provoking destinations, teens and families will enjoy the Art Museum, the Children's Museum, the South Carolina Hall of Fame, and the Ingram Planetaruim.
NIGHTLIFE
Myrtle Beach has several clubs that cater specifically to teens, like Night Life on Ocean Boulevard. This hot spot features live bands and top 40 music and allows no alcoholic beverages. The Attic, located at the Pavilion, and Karma, located downtown, are other popular teen hangouts, and the Attic's right on the beach. Hip Hop 'n Chillin' provides music, dancing, and games for the younger teen group, catering to grades 3-8. All these teen clubs are safe destinations for your teens to have some fun without you.
HORSEBACK RIDING
I think every teenage I've known, especially the girls, have experienced a keen interest in horses at some point. Myrtle Beach is one of the few places in the U.S. that offers horseback riding on the beach. Several area stables have horses to suit any rider's level of experience, and some even have carriage rides and hay rides.
With Myrtle Beach's multifarious activities, your teen will never get a chance to be bored. Rain or shine, the whole family will find something fun and exciting to do. Even the most hard-to-please teen will discover that Myrtle Beach is "way cool."
