Whenever I think of "spring break," I always imagine "Where the Boys Are." (Remember that movie from the sixties?) The spring break location was Ft. Lauderdale, but today, students have many destinations to choose from when planning their spring break, and Myrtle Beach is one of the top choices. Why? The "Grand Strand" has somehow managed to maintain that classic spring break atmosphere amid its modern sprawling high-rises, condos, shopping malls, and amusement parks. Check out what the area has to offer prospective spring breakers:
THE BEACH
The key ingredient to any great spring break is, of course, the beach itself. MB has 60 miles of wide sandy beach, kissed by gently lapping waves. With that kind of area, there's room for everyone's beach blanket - no matter how many party goers show up. And it provides a venue for that great pastime known as "strolling the strand," when young folks walk up and down the beach, checking out all the other spring breakers. The weather is perfect, too: warm days great for working on your tan and playing on the sand, but without summer's scorching rays.
DAYTIME ACTIVITIES
There's plenty to do during the daytime hours in Myrtle Beach - miniature golf, gocart races at NASCAR Speedpark, thrilling rides at Family Kingdom Amusement Park, Ripley's Museum and Aquarium, water parks, fishing, amazing arcades, shopping at boutiques and outlet malls, and horseback riding on the beach. A favorite spot is Magiquest, where players will find themselves as active participants in a magic realm of mystery and fantasy. It's like being in a real-life action video game. Water sports are everywhere, too - jet skiing, snorkeling, banana boat rides, party cruises, and parasailing. Or just hang out on the beach and enjoy music, dancing, and group activities like volleyball and other friendly competitions.
NIGHT LIFE
This is the high point of any spring break experience, and Myrtle Beach will not disappoint. Club Kryptonite has 21,000 square feet of partying, including VIP sky boxes for a truly memorable experience. Club Boca offers the latest hip-hop music as well as hot Latin beats. For great music at a rooftop lounge with ocean views, check out Pirate's Cove. Or visit Malibu Surf Bar for a cool tropical experience, including grass huts, a large dance floor, and top 40 tunes with a few oldies thrown in. Many clubs still pay homage to beach music and to "the shag," Myrtle Beach's official dance. The list of clubs and bars is seemingly endless, and there will be many within walking distance of your room, so driving won't be an issue. Just use the beach as your party path!
FOOD
Man does not live by alcohol alone. Ya gotta eat sooner or later, and with almost 1,800 eateries available, there's something for every taste and budget. During spring break, many restaurants offer student discounts, coupons, and specials. Choose from fast food, pizza, fantastic seafood, ethnic foods, or if you miss mom's cooking, hit one of the country buffets.
Myrtle Beach usually makes it into the "top ten spring break locations," and that's for the WORLD - not just for the U.S. The city welcomes student partiers, and entices them with a never-ending supply of sun and fun, and lots of packages, VIP discount cards, coupons, and great rates on lodging. MB's spring break is a super way to celebrate and experience the rite of passage that has come to be known as spring break.
