You're a traveler, and you like to leave your footprint wherever you go. But sometimes, you just don't want to leave it where others have already left prints before you! If you are the type of traveler who wants to leave tracks on places other than just the beach, a trip to the seaside town of Myrtle Beach allows you to explore a remarkably diverse offering of lesser-known attractions and events (even if you have been there before!)
The fishing piers that dot the Myrtle Beach Coastline attract anglers from all over. You can cast your line for a small fee from private piers such as Cherry Grove Pier, Apache Pier, Pier 14, and Surfside Pier, among many others, or try a public pier like Veterans Pier or the Creekwalk.
If you have kids in tow, the 500-acre Waccatee Zoological Farm sits on private, carefully preserved, wooded property and has over 100 species of animals for the public to view. The farm prides itself on the care of the animals and the lush surroundings of the environment. Make your next stop at the Children's Museum of SC (2501 North Kings Highway near Myrtle Square Mall) to let the kids burn off some of that pent-up vacation energy, where they can play and explore through interactive exhibits.
You can truly get back to nature and feel the wind in your hair at Myrtle Beach's outdoor parks, and the best part is, you can visit them for free! Huntington Beach State Park is home to the historic castle Atalaya, which is on the register of National Historic Landmarks. This state park also attracts bird-watchers from all over the United States, so take the chance to watch the birds, or even to watch the bird-watchers! Chapin Park and McLean park offer in-line skating rinks, playgrounds, tennis courts, and picnic areas, and you can let Spot tag along with you to the Bark Park, Myrtle Beach's local dog park.
Wrap up the day and get your final taste of what Myrtle Beach has to offer by visiting La Belle Amie, a family-owned vineyard dating back to the early 1990s. Muscadine grapes grown on site are used to produce some of the wines, while others are made in family-run wineries in Europe. La Belle Amie boasts a wine tasting room where guests can end their tour by sampling private label wines along with a variety of gourmet foods.
Ready to leave that footprint? Make your way to Myrtle Beach and tread upon these destinations lesser-known; and in doing so you might just discover your own off-the-beaten-path Myrtle Beach secret!
