Located on the southwestern coast of Florida, Naples is a tropical paradise known for its weather and white sandy beaches. To compliment its pristine 77 degree average air temperature, Naples has an abundance of outdoor activities ranging from sanctuary boardwalks and state parks, to air boat rides and beach combing.
Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is a must-see for any nature enthusiast. A 2.25 mile boardwalk sits atop an 11,000 acre natural haven filled with birds, reptiles, mammals and insects. Despite being in a swamp, mosquitoes do not pose much a problem to visitors at Corkscrew because of the abundance of natural predators. The park is open every day year round, excluding days with severe weather. Hours of operation change seasonally, so its a good idea to check before heading over for a tour. Another great park is, of course, Everglades National Park, the nation's largest subtropical wilderness. Alligators, dolphin, birds, and manatees are just a few of the animals that make up the 1.5 million acre habitat. Guided air boat tours are available for up-close & personal expeditions. Age restrictions and fees often apply so be sure to find the one that best fits you and your company.
If you're looking to enjoy the more traditional Florida vacation by kicking it beach side, check out Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park. A one mile stretch of beautiful south Florida white beach located inside the park is popular for sunbathers, snorkelers, and picnickers alike. Recent dredging provides for some pretty cool shell hunting as well. The north end of the island sports a tower that overlooks Wiggins Pass and offers a great aerial view of the surrounding nature.
For the ultimate "away from it all" experience, add Cabbage Key Island to your itinerary. This unique island can only be accessed by water or air - that's right; you need a helicopter or a boat to get there. There are no cars, or even roads on Cabbage Key, but if you left your seaplane at home this vacation, worry not, as daily boat runs are made from nearby locations. From a romantic dinner on a tower platform, to a canoe ride through mangrove-covered tunnel, there are no shortage of things to do "The Cabbage Key Way." Pack a lunch and spend the day at the beach, then take a stroll on one of the many nature trails that adorn the island. You can take the isolation as an opportunity to see nature at its finest, or simply relax in its beautiful climate.
