Countless celebrities call New York City home. You may still be a traveler and a mere wannabe, but why not fake it till you make it?
It all starts with where you hang your hat - or luxury handbag, for that matter. The Big Apple offers five-star hotels that come with marvelous views of city treasures, like Central Park, Times Square, and the Hudson River for a start: From a penthouse suite, the glowing skyline makes a great nightlight. New York City's most expensive hotel room, for a lofty 30 grand per night, not only provides its dwellers with great views and luxury amenities, but also a round-the-clock personal assistant and chauffeured Rolls Royce. How's that for room service?
Manhattan's plethora of upscale restaurants aims to leave your stomach full and wallet empty. Nearly every city neighborhood boasts a few gems, and there are many types of cuisine from which to choose. Love sushi? The priciest restaurant in Manhattan (and even the United States, for that matter) imports it straight from Japan to your plate. Meals start at $400; bragging rights never end.
When your basic needs are taken care of, it's time to shop. (If shopping happens to be one of your basic needs, forget I said anything.) Venture downtown for the chic fashions of SoHo and Nolita and browse one-of-a-kind vintage pieces or those coveted jeans, shoes, and dresses (oh my!) that all the most famous fashionistas are rocking. Personal shoppers are available at many stylish boutiques to help you achieve the look.
You're now gorgeous, well-fed, and have fancy digs. Sounds like it's time to party! Hit up the gritty-glam Meatpacking District, where the who's who outnumber the pork chops. You'll rub elbows - and maybe even tenderloins - with the stars at various clubs and restaurants in the trendy neighborhood, whether you're dining at Pastis or getting your drink on at Marquee (it's getting in the door that will prove to be the difficult part).
Should the life of a big spender prove to be too laborious, there's always rest and relaxation: New York City offers every type of pampering and beautification imaginable. For a pretty penny, you can have toxins steamed out and youth re-installed.
Reservations at spas and top salons can be hard to come by, so call ahead and let the money do the talking.
Before you head back home, give the Big Apple a proper goodbye and final once-over. Get unparalleled views on a private helicopter or yacht tour, champagne and hors d'oeuvres included. If you're a land lover, you can always rent a limousine for the evening, stand through the sunroof with arms raised high, and show the world you've arrived.
