Head West for Scottsdale's Best

If you're looking to indulge your passion for both the big city and the great outdoors, Scottsdale, Arizona has you covered.  Scottsdale is one of the fastest growing cities in Arizona, and offers visitors a chance to experience its Western roots, along with elegant dining, shopping, and plenty of outdoor activities.  With so much to offer, I weeded through all the options to come up with some favorites!

Enjoy a Picnic  With hundreds of acres of parks to choose from, there are no shortages of picnic spots in Scottsdale.  Many parks offer trails, ponds, and fields to enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the shade or an impromptu game of football.

Horseback Riding  Experience the beauty of the Scottsdale area on horseback.  Ride the trails through the Verde River or explore acres of the Sonoran Desert.  There are several ranches in the area, and many offer group tours or corporate outings.  Many also offer wagon rides and cookout sights for a family picnic.

Target Shooting  Go ahead; indulge in your own Wild West fantasy.  Clay target shooting allows you to compete against yourself or your friends and family.  Red Mountain Trap and Skeet is a local favorite for families.  The staff is big on safety and offers those of all levels a friendly atmosphere for target shooting.  Try the nighttime shooting for an added adventure.

Disc Golf  Enjoy the same course that is home to one of the most elite PDGA National Tour events.  The Shelly Sharpe Memorial Disc Golf Course is located in Vista Del Camino Park.  The course offers disc golfers stunning scenery.  The area is well-maintained and also offers a number of paths throughout the park.

Hiking  If you're looking to explore the Scottsdale area on foot, there are a number of hiking trails and parks suited to all abilities.  While hiking in the area, you'll come across nature at its best.  La Mirada Park, for instance, features a desert botanical trail.  Just pick up a local trail map to begin your hiking adventure.

Biking  Cyclists will love a guided mountain biking tour through the Sonoran Desert.  Tours are offered for all levels of ability.  Most include all equipment and water, a support vehicle and safety orientation.  You'll also receive a brief history of the Sonoran Desert.  The scenic views are free of charge!

Rock Climbing  It's one of America's fastest growing sports.  Whether you're a novice or an experienced climber, there are dozens of options for you in Scottsdale.  Climbs offer stunning views of the area.  Climbing is a great way to enjoy the outdoors while challenging you to new heights.

Hop a Train  Children of all ages will enjoy the scenery while riding a train through Mc-Cormick-Stillman Railroad Park.  It's one of the most unique parks in the country.  There's also an antique carousel, shops, and a museum.  Or just relax on the grass and enjoy a picnic.

Jeep Adventures  It's way more than just a ride!  Large and small group Jeep tours are offered by several companies in the Scottsdale area.  Enjoy a tour through the Tonto National Forest and the Sonoran Desert.  It's a great way to see what the west was like before electricity!

Hot Air Balloon Rides  There's no shortage of scenery when you take to the sky.  Hot Air Balloon tours have been one of Scottsdale's most popular outdoor activities for decades.  Some companies offer free flight videos.  Now that's adventure.
