Sun Valley--a Place Where Everyone is a Star

"So Dad, what's the plan?"

"Sun Valley"

"Sun Valley, Idaho?"

"Yes."

"Have you looked outside?  It's June.  What can we do there with no skiing?"

"I'll make you a deal Jason.  We'll set up reservations for three days and if you are not having a great time we will come home."

Talk about a delightful small town atmosphere with big city class and you have the Sun Valley area.  We stretched ourselves and were exposed to many things that would not been at the top of our list just because of the beautiful surroundings and the attitude of the locals.

We took a garden tour at the library!  There were these great ladies our front talking about how hard they had work and wonderful stories there were to be told in the gardens.  They were so convincing we ponied up our $15 and supported the cause.

White water rafting was something the "boys" wanted to do.  I will say this much on the subject.  When giant waves are bombarding a little raft and the man in charge wanted me to sit on the edge and help paddle he was in for a surprise.  I sat the paddle down in the center of the boat.  Crawled in and hung on.  I think I screamed for 20 minutes straight.  It was a once in a lifetime experience for me.

Mountain biking was a riot.  It was fairly inexpensive and they had well marked trails.  Occasionally you would come across a local who may remind you why staying on the trail was important.  Some gentleman in a cowboy hat carrying a shot gun took the opportunity to explain property lines to Jason.  I took pictures!

We ALL went to the symphony.  Granted it was held outside on the mountain and the music may have been a bit more mainstream, but we all enjoyed it and we were sitting on a blanket with the stars as our ceiling.

I have to mention the locals again.  We were waiting in line and a well known celebrity was about four people behind us.  He was growing a bit impatient with the line and walked around us to the front to get "the service he deserved".  The woman was fantastic.  She called him by name in a very loud voice and said "Everyone is a star in Sun Valley Idaho.  You'll have to wait your turn."  It was refreshing to say the least.

Fishing, wine tasting, and the theater were all part of our eight night stay.  Even Jason was pleased.  They kept telling about the festival that includes sheep in streets in October.  I think we'll be back--Jason wants to be a star!
