Still Searching for a Spring Break Trip? Consider Skiing in Vail

Looking for fun over your spring break vacation? If you'd rather trade in your swimsuit for ski boots, there's still time plan a spring break ski trip. In Vail, Colorado you can find many things to do to fill your time with, in addition to downhill skiing, you can be indulging in cold-weather horseback rides, dog sledding, ice-skating, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, tubing and Nordic skiing.

Naturally, Vail also offers world-class alpine snowboarding and skiing. Anyone that wants to come along on the trip, but is not into snow-sports, may choose to completely avoid the outdoors and still have a fabulous time soaking in a hot tub or enjoying a workout and a massage at one of the many spas scattered around the Valley.

The Low-down on Vail, Colorado:

  1. Getting to Vail and Beaver Creek Colorado. Relatively easy, if you fly into the local Vail/Eagle Airport (EGE) (though airfare can be more expensive) with non-stop flights in winter from 14 major US airports. You can also fly into Denver International Airport (DIA), which is 100 miles east of Vail/Beaver Creek. You can rent a car, or get a shuttle/limosine service from DIA. Once in Vail, take advantage of the free shuttles, county wide bus service and pedestrian friendly villages. 

  2. Accommodation. To find lodging accommodations, check out the vacation rentals in the area. You might save big money by finding a large, private house to rent or slopeside condo rather than staying at a hotel. In general, you'll the most affordable lodging in East Vail. There's a free shuttle bus to ferry you back and forth to the heart of town and the slopes, but the rates are more reasonable.

  3. The Skiing. The main skiing and snowboarding attractions are: Vail Mountain and Beaver Creek Ski Resort. To maximize your time on the massively sized Vail Mountain, you should check out vail.snow.com and take a virtual tour of the mountain to map out the trails that are best for you, based on your skill level. If you have no ski skills, consider signing up for ski or snowboard lessons in Vail and learn something new on your spring break.

  4. Nightlife. Everyone can meet up later at places like The Club at Vail Village, which is a well-known hot spot for frat-style partying and live music or if you're trying hard to impress someone, you may want to try Pepi's at Vail Village, they advertise themselves as "The apres ski spot for a more refined crowd. Live music on the heated deck...." Regular folks might try Art's Bar in the Village, they're only claim to fame is Wednesday night Karaoke, but the Mustang Bar & Grill has live music, if you've outgrown the Frat thing...
