Fall into Hilton Head: An Alternative to Sticky Summer Days

Warm, sunny days dissolve into crisp, cool evenings during autumn in Hilton Head. From September through November, the temperatures are significantly lower than the preceding months; it doesn't get much hotter than 85 degrees during the day, and you may even need to wear a sweatshirt at night (sometimes the day's temperature drops into the mid-50s after sunset).

Hilton Head's mild autumn climate makes outdoor activities much more pleasant than they are in the summer, so shopping along the quaint streets and attending outdoor concerts are a delight. Additionally, golfing is at its peak during the fall months. Since some of the best golf courses in the country are on this picturesque isle, hitting the links will be comfortable, enjoyable and relaxing.

The ocean maintains the same temperature (give or take a few degrees) all year round, so fun in the sun is always a possibility. You're less likely to get a sunburn in the fall than in the summer since the sun is a bit further away. So even though the days are shorter, you may be able to stay at the beach a bit longer.

In mid-September, oyster season begins. "Al fresco" oyster roasts take place on many of the local beaches each night. Locals and visitors alike enjoy socializing and sharing tasty treats after sunset, and parties often continue through the wee hours of the morning.

October brings the Community Festival to Hilton Head, where guests can be spooked in a haunted house, enter a pumpkin-carving contest and play laser tag. Magicians and carnival-style games combine to make a great atmosphere, and you'll spend an unforgettable evening (or two) enjoying Halloween-themed fun.

The Fall Festival of Trees and Lights in November is a must-see - if you're lucky enough to visit at the right time. Local businesses showcase extravagant decorations in a competition to outdo one another with holiday spirit.

Since Hilton Head is typically known to be a spring and summer vacation hotspot, visiting in the fall can be less expensive - supply and demand at its best! Airfare drops significantly once the school year starts, as do vacation rental prices

It's not too hot, and it's definitely not too cold; the weather is pleasant and mild. No matter where you're coming from, Hilton Head offers a breath of fresh air in the fall.
