Orlando Vacations--Year Round Travel and Fun!

What is the best time of year to visit Orlando, Florida?  Due to the state's moderate climate and endless attractions, Florida's destinations are never "off season".  There are always sunny beaches, theme parks, great food, and shopping.  Let's run through the year to see what time is right for you.

January is the coldest, generally.  To me, a Wisconsinite, an average high of 72 degrees is quite balmy.  You can tell who the northerners and snow birds are; we will be the ones wearing the shorts.  I have spent many winter breaks at the end of December in Florida and found this a welcome respite from the parkas and snow pants required in my local climate.  Don't forget to pack a sweater though, the nights can be cool.

Spring is beautiful.  The flowers are blooming, birds are singing.  Families should consider that March and April are also flourishing with "spring breakers."  Florida cities such as Miami, Daytona Beach, and Key West draw more of this crowd than Orlando.  Popular theme parks such as Disney and Discovery Cove pride themselves in being family friendly year round.

Summertime is also a popular choice.  Many families bear the heat to take advantage of summer vacation from school.  June to September are the rainiest months, however.  July has an average high of 92 degrees, and a rainfall average of 7.15 inches.  Compared to less than 2.5 inches each for November, December, and January; that is quite a bit of precipitation.  July and August are often so hot and humid that the brief afternoon showers can be quite refreshing.  I went to Disney in July, marched in a parade with my high school band (in full polyester uniforms), and found the rain welcome afterward.  Showers could turn severe, as well.  I have to mention summer brings with it Hurricane Season which runs from June 1st to November 30th.

Fall is a wonderful time to vacation in Orlando.  Fall vacationers are less likely to encounter rain, but still will find moderate temperatures and plenty of sunshine.  November has an average high of 79 degrees.  Fall can be challenging to families who want to vacation together, as kids are back in school.  Tourists this time of year are generally adults and retired adults.

Whatever time of year you choose, Orlando, Florida is a great destination for your next vacation.
